Our History

2007 - NPC became the largest privately-owned merchant processing provider in the U.S. processing payments for over 240,000 businesses nationwide

2006 - Acquired by Iron Triangle Payment Systems (ITPS), who also purchased Retriever Payment Systems in January 2005.  All ITPS entities were re-branded National Processing Company (NPC).  NPC is now a privately held company and markets under brands of both NPC & Retriever Payment Systems.

2004 - Acquired by Bank of America for $1.4 billion

2003 - Acquired Best Payment Solutions

2001 - Acquired merchant businesses from National City Corporation (NCC) banking subsidiaries; formed a merchant processing joint venture with ABN Amro USA

1999 - 2001 - Exited all non-merchant businesses (check processing, remittance, payables, freight, and BPO) and expanded presence in regional merchant sector.

1999 - Acquired regional merchant portfolio from Heartland Payment Systems

1997 - Acquired Financial Alliance, moving the Company into regional merchant acquiring

1996 - NPC became a NYSE publicly traded company

1994 - Processed over 1 billion credit transactions

1992 - Expanded into debit processing

1988 - FNB merged with NCC; NPC became a wholly owned subsidiary of NCC

1979 - NPC was established as separate subsidiary of FNB

1974 - Diversified into merchant acquiring business

1967 - First National Bank (FNB) of Louisville, KY acquired MasterCharge

1964 - MasterCharge was founded in Louisville, Kentucky
